BRIDGEPORT -

Two immigrant children being held in Connecticut have sued the federal government in hope of being reunited with their parents, who are being held in a detention center in Texas, immediately.

Attorneys for the children have filed an injunction asking the government to return them to their parents before the July 26 deadline.

An emergency hearing will be held at the Bridgeport courthouse at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The lawsuit says the children were separated from their parents in May.

One is a 14-year-old girl from El Salvador, and the other is a 9-year-old boy from Honduras.

The children been staying at a group home in Groton.

The lawsuit says the boy suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.

The children are expected to be at the courthouse today, but not to testify.

Several dozen immigration rights advocates are currently rallying in support of the children outside the courthouse.
