A 16-year-old accused of fatally stabbing another 16-year-old at a Fourth of July party in New Cassel was held without bail Thursday after his arraignment.
Matthew Martinez is accused of attacking Jordan Harris with four or five others during the crowded party at a home on on Roman Avenue and Costar Street that was advertised on Instagram.
Prosecutors said in court that Martinez is a member of the Crips gang. They said he and Harris had previous disputes, but did not specify what they were about.
Jordan Harris' mother said that she would like to see Martinez "put away, so he won't hurt anybody else.” She said her son was a “great person” who had a “great heart.”
Martinez is facing second-degree murder and gang assault charges.
