Neighbors want Southbury Beach either restored or sealed for good

Residents are demanding action for the garbage scattered across Southbury Beach on Lake Zoar.
The beach is overrun with garbage, burn marks from fire pits, and even an abandoned truck across the road.
Neighbors are taking their concerns to town hall Thursday night — demanding the beach either be sealed off for good or redeveloped as a park with lifeguards and permitted parking.
A town study estimated the cost of redevelopment to be around $600,000.
There were plans to redevelop Southbury Beach into a park at one point, but Southbury's First Selectman says the last administration spent the money elsewhere.
They also say fixing the problem will be difficult because most of the area is federal land operated by a private utility.
