WEST HAVEN -

Police say a 4-year-old boy has died and a 2-year-old boy was hospitalized in West Haven Thursday.

Police officers and firefighters were called to an apartment at 2 Treat St. at 3 p.m. Officials say the father of the children called 911 to report that the brothers were injured.

When first responders arrived, police say they found the children and the father inside their apartment. The children were immediately treated on the scene then taken to a local hospital. The 4-year-old died at the hospital.

Police are remaining tight-lipped, but neighbors said the brothers were initially in a hot car.

Crime scene tape was placed around the apartment building and a black Hyundai Elantra.

The 2-year-old is currently being treated at the hospital, but his condition is not known.

Police are asking anyone who saw anything to come forward and call Det. Suraci at the West Haven Police Department at 203-937-3927.
