Defense lawyers petition for new trial in 2004 slaying

Defense lawyers for a man convicted of killing his uncle in 2004 have requested a new trial.
Marash Gojcaj is serving a 50-year sentence for killing his uncle, Zef Vulevic, at their Danbury restaurant.
Police say Vulevic was twice shot in the back of the head. His body was found chopped up in Bedford, New York.
Lawyers for Gojcaj argued Thursday in Danbury Superior Court that they have emails and text messages that prove Danbury police hid evidence of favors to be done for a key witness in the case.
The state said the witness was not influenced by police and that a jury has already come to a conclusion in the case.
