NORWALK -

Sen. Richard Blumenthal warned people of what he calls "junk" insurance plans being pushed by President Donald Trump at the Norwalk Community Center Thursday.

He says he believes President Trump has given the green light to expand these short-term insurance plans and is encouraging consumers to purchase them to sabotage the Affordable Care Act.

The plans may not cover basic benefits, including prescription drugs, mental health services, maternity care and those with pre-exisiting conditions.

Sen. Blumenthal says he is preparing legislation called the Fair Care Act, which will protect consumers from these types of insurance plans.
