Scorching summer temperatures have parents concerned about their kids in summer camps.
Children are at a higher risk for heat-related illnesses, so camp counselors at Camp Playland in New Canaan are doing their best to keep everyone in good health.
Steve Bloom, owner of Camp Playland, says kids are still playing sports and staying active despite the heat. However, Bloom also knows extra precautions need to be taken to keep campers cool on really hot days.
"We're taking water breaks all the time," Bloom said. "The whole group will take a scheduled break together and the counselors will lead the campers to the water fountains for drinking water.”
Officials say that staying hydrated is important and it's also important to keep a close eyes on kids to look out for signs that they may not feel well.
Bloom says if any camper is acting different or looking a little off, they will be taken to the nurse or to take a break in some air conditioning.
At Camp Playland, misting stations and water coolers where campers can rehydrate are also available.
Counselors also say they are skipping activities that are very hot and replacing them with ones that involve a lot of water and shade.
