A Bridgeport teen is thankful after receiving a donation for a motorized wheelchair.

Barbara Jones, 16, is a leukemia patient who is paralyzed from the waist down. Barbara was desperately trying to get her own motorized chair so she could get back some of her independence.

News 12 ran a story about Jones' attempt to get a chair. That's when Bill Eleck of Gold Coast Roofing, LLC in Norwalk came forward to donate a like-new top-of-the-line electric wheelchair valued at $15,000. 

"I want to thank everybody for caring enough to help me get the resources I need to live my life more independently, so I can go where I want to go and not be so limited," says Jones.

Eleck delivered the chair to where Jones works at the Newton Foster Homecare Agency in downtown Bridgeport. Chris Wright of Wright Building Company delivered the chair at no charge.

Jones' mother says having the chair is better and safer for her daughter. She says it allows her daughter to be more independent and get around faster.

Eleck says he is grateful to News 12 for bringing Jones' need to light and for helping to make the gift possible.
