Residents express concern ahead of license caps for Uber, Lyft

Some New Yorkers say the new limit on the number of new licenses issued to Uber, Lyft and black livery cabs is not a good move for the city.
The City Council approved the bill Wednesday. The bill is perceived as a big win for yellow cab drivers who are struggling to compete with Uber and other app-based services.
The cap makes New York City the first in the country to limit the number of for-hire drivers on the streets. The City Council is also considering an increase in wages for drivers.
Some in Williamsburg say that travel is going to become more difficult with fewer Uber and Lyft drivers, especially ahead of the L train shutdown. Others say they have faith that the city will step up and provide more transportation alternatives when the L train does in fact shut down.
