The Bridgeport police captain accused of sending racist texts has retired from the force.
Chief AJ Perez confirmed that Capt. Mark Straubel stepped down Monday.
Straubel had been suspended with pay while the department investigated allegations he made racist remarks in several texts to colleagues.
He had been on the police force for nearly 20 years and was a top aide to Chief Perez.
His alleged comments shocked many city officials.
