Orange PD warns local businesses of electric bill scam

The Orange Police Department is warning the public of a new version of an old scam.

They say a handful of local businesses were targeted by scammers pretending to be United Illuminating.

The callers tell the businesses that they are behind on their electric bills and electric would be shut off unless a payment is made.

The scammers then request payment.

Businesses in Orange have lost more than $4,200 to the scams.
