Officials make arrest in deadly 2016 hit-and-run boat crash

Passaic County officials have made an arrest in a deadly 2016 hit-and-run boat crash.
Shawn Kelly, 44, faces charges including leaving the scene of a boating accident and assault for the Labor Day 2016 crash on Greenwood Lake in West Milford.
Edwin Lane died a few weeks after the crash. His injuries included a fractured skull from hitting his head on a metal railing and a broken collar bone.
Police have said 72-year-old Lane, his wife and another couple had dined at a restaurant at one end of Greenwood Lake and were on the way back to Lane's dock when a powerboat smashed into them from behind. The other vessel became airborne and went over Lane's boat before fleeing the scene.
Lane was killed and the three other passengers were injured.
Officials say that the investigation determined that the damage to Kelly’s boat was consistent with the damage to Lane’s boat.
Kelly is set to appear in state Superior Court in Passaic County on Friday.
