Sens. Blumenthal, Murphy speak out against arming teachers

Connecticut Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy are expected to speak out today against a plan to arm school teachers.
The New York Times first reported that Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos was considering allowing states and districts to use federal grant money for programs that would provide weapons and training to teachers.
Both senators have previously stated their belief that arming teachers would not stop school shootings.
"By arming teachers and especially taking funds away from what's really needed for education -- the funds coming from the federal government are scarce as is,” Blumenthal said. "To take that away from education and devote them to enforce is wasteful."
Both Blumenthal and Murphy have proposed an amendment to stop the possible change from happening, but say it is unlikely to be voted on.
