Text-to-911 lets residents message emergency services during dangerous situations

Connecticut residents can now contact emergency services using text messaging.
Text-to-911 allows people to send messages from cellphones during situations when making a traditional phone call may not be safe. The new program should be especially helpful for situations like a home invasion.
The service will also create better response times for people with disabilities.
Officials say they are working on having the program in other languages and to also have the ability to receive photos, video and vehicle crash notification data.
