The decision to dismiss schools early due to the hot temperatures has been met with a mixed reaction.
Seven school systems released students early on Wednesday. That includes 11 schools in Norwalk. Stratford Public Schools already announced an early dismissal for Thursday as well.
Officials say they don't have air conditioning.
Some parents said it was inconvenient for them, but many said the schools made the right call.
Nurse practitioner Cathleen Azarigian, of AFC Urgent Care, says dehydration is the biggest concern. It can lead to students feeling dizzy and even passing out. There's also the threat of stroke and heat exhaustion. And children with asthma may have trouble breathing.
Medical professionals say students should carry water bottles and stay inside for recess amid the scorching heat. Children playing sports should alert their coaches if they begin to feel ill.
Go here for a list of schools with early dismissals.
