AAA: 35M Americans to travel for Labor Day weekend

As many as 35 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home during the Labor Day holiday, AAA says.
The agency says most people will be driving. The worst time to travel was expected to be during Friday’s rush hour between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Gas prices are at a four-year high this Labor Day weekend. On Long Island, the average for a gallon of regular gasoline in Nassau and Suffolk is $2.98.
The LIRR was running 11 extra afternoon trains east of Penn Station to accommodate East End travelers. Trains will operate on a special schedule on Monday.
Friday was also expected to be the busiest day of the weekend at local airports.
