2 rest areas to close Friday for renovations

Some of the state's most popular rest stops are going to be closed down for nearly a year.
Both the Thomas Edison Travel Plaza and the Monmouth Service Area are closing for major renovations. The buildings will be torn down with new ones set to be built.
There are signs warning drivers, but those who miss them will have to find somewhere else to make a pit stop.
"Sometimes, especially when you're stuck in holiday traffic like this, the rest stops along the parkway and turnpike are more than convenient, they're necessary," says Leena Dev.
Many regulars say repairs are needed and the inconvenience is a necessary one.
"Not a problem," says Lester Delago. "We'll have to plan ahead and stop in the one before."
The renovations are part of a plan to replace or refurbish all Turkpike Authority service areas. The costs are being covered by Sunoco and HMSHost, in exchange for new contracts to operate food and fuel.
Both Thomas Edison and Monmouth rest areas are expected to reopen by next Memorial Day weekend.
