Residents of 685 Success Ave. in Stratford were able to return to their condos Tuesday for the first time since being displaced by a fire last Wednesday.
For the next few days, residents can go through their units and take anything that may be salvageable. They were also invited to the Sterling House Community Center to look through and take from a selection of hundreds of donated articles of clothing and other necessities like toiletries and shoes.
The donations were being kept at the Stratford Police Department until Tuesday morning. Officers say the boxes were taking up so much space that they had to move them to the Sterling House, where staff welcomed the goods. Volunteers and staff members spent the morning sorting through the goods.
Officials say they will continue working with residents to determine what their needs are and how they can help.
