New Canaan school opens new wing

NEW CANAAN -

Students at a school in New Canaan now have a lot more space to learn, thanks to a new wing.

St. Luke's School held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday for its new Arts and Humanities Wing.

Tuesday was the first day back for students, and they got the chance to tour the 40,000-square-foot addition.

The new wing includes classrooms, art studios, a design lab space, a library and a cafe.

Educators say this project has been part of a 10-year master plan and that it greatly enhances their school.

"As wonderful as these spaces are, as new and as expanded as they are, what they really do is give great teachers a chance to practice their craft with students," says Head of School Mark Davis. "So it enhances teaching and learning. It's not just a Taj Mahal kind of thing, it's great spaces designed with teaching and learning in mind."

St. Luke's School teaches students in fifth through 12th grades.
