STAMFORD -

Dozens of golfers braved the extreme heat to raise money for therapy dogs in Stamford.

Proceeds from the Knights of Columbus golf tournament and luncheon will go to the Stand for the Troops foundation, particularly toward a program that pairs veterans living with PTSD with service dogs.

Maura Kallaway, director of communications for Stand for the Troops, said, “PTSD service dogs in particular help solders and veterans to, like, get out of the house. The symptoms of PTSD, you're depressed, you're afraid to go into crowds, your environment is your enemy and dogs help to deal with their environment and keep them calm.”

This is the fifth year proceeds from the tournament have been donated to Stand for the Troops.
