Nonprofit gives eligible children free clothes

STAMFORD -

A local nonprofit is giving children of all backgrounds the opportunity to go back to school with brand-new or gently used clothing.

Clothes to Kids of Fairfield County allows eligible children to get a free week's worth of clothes twice a year.

That includes five tops, four pants, one dress, one jacket, one pair of shoes and five new pairs of underwear and socks.

For the first time in the nonprofit's two-year history, they say they've started offering backpacks as well.

Each appointment with a personal shopper is one hour, and children can try on the clothes of their choosing.

The personal shopper is told the child's size before they arrive.

Children that get free or reduced lunches at school are eligible for the program.

The organization will be holding a fundraiser in October with food, live music and a silent auction.
