Stamford building locked down over weapons scare

Posted: Updated:
STAMFORD -

Tense moments unfolded at a Stamford office building Thursday after it was reported that a man had weapons on him.

About a dozen police cars descended on the corner of Summer and Hoyt streets after 11 a.m. They received two calls reporting a man in the lobby with what they thought to be three gun cases.

Authorities did a floor-by-floor search, while employees were told to remain in their offices with doors locked. Additional people were not allowed inside the building during the search.

After the initial search turned up empty, police used security footage to find the person in question on the second floor.

After about an hour, police gave the all-clear after finding the man did not have any weapons on him.

One of the man's co-workers says he had just returned from an exposition and was carrying three black cases with items that are similar to bulletin boards inside.

Employees inside the building commended police for their response to the situation.
