Officials say four people attending a party were shot in Hempstead Saturday after bullets came through a backyard fence.
Investigators say the shooting happened on Dorlon Street around 11 p.m.
News 12 is told the bullets were fired on Burnett Street, went through a PVC fence that separated the two yards and struck the four victims who were standing in the backyard.
At first, the crowd of friends thought it was fireworks until they realized that four people were shot.
Monique Lassic, who was at the party, says her friend was shot in the hand as her 12-year-old daughter watched on. She says another friend was shot in the stomach, a male friend was shot in the thigh and her sister was shot in the hip.
"You see people laying on the ground and it's chaos because you have four people shot and everyone is trying to figure out who in the world do I try to help first," said Monique Lassic. "And who did this? And why?"
Three of the four victims are still in the hospital recovering.
No arrests have been made.
Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS
