Stamford crisis counselors say Kavanaugh hearings can bring varying effects

Staff at the Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education in Stamford say Thursday's hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee could bring up painful memories for sexual assault survivors.
Staff members say the hearings could have two effects. They say Dr. Christine Blasey Ford's testimony might inspire victims to come forward with their own abuse. But they also say the spotlight Ford is facing could make women who are watching shut down and not want to share what's happened to them.
The Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education says they have seen an increase in calls to their hotline and services they offer since the #MeToo movement began.
Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education employee Jessica Feighan says it is common for victims to report their abuse years later, and the time frame does not discount someone's story.
"It's up to each individual person to find out how long it takes to find their voice and come forward," says Feighan.
