Police arrest suspect in multiple robberies

MONROE -

Police say they arrested a man wanted in connection with multiple robberies.

Alvin Robertson, 55, allegedly had a gun on him when he took $600 from a Subway restaurant on Route 111 in Monroe in July. A month later, he allegedly stole a few thousand dollars from the People's Bank in the Stop & Shop right across the street.

Police in Watertown arrested Robertson Thursday after spotting his black Nissan Altima that they say was used when he robbed a People's Bank in Watertown last Friday. Police say Robertson's last known address was in Bridgeport and that he is a convicted felon with a lengthy history of robberies dating back to the 1990s. They say he is suspected in many other bank robberies in the state.

Subway owner Mohamud Ghafoor told News 12 that he saw Robertson scoping out the area before he robbed his store.

Robertson was arraigned Friday in Waterbury in connection with the bank robbery in Watertown.

Police say Robertson will be arrested next week for the two robberies in Monroe on bonds of $150,000 for each crime. Police say Robertson will be in court in Bridgeport early next week.
