B82 select bus service is less than a week old, but some Flatlands residents say it is already creating headaches.
The new select bus stop at Avenue K and Kings Highway was designed to speed up service along the B82 line by avoiding the traffic bottleneck at Flatbush and Flatlands avenues.
Raymond Boyce, who lives right behind the new stop, say the change was more trouble than it is worth.
"They took the congestion from Flatbush and Kings Highway and brought it over here and it doesn't make any sense," says Boyce.
Boyce says the redesign to accommodate the SBS not only causes congestion, but danger as well.
"There's nothing as a safe haven for the pedestrians, and the island is not raised," he says. "So there is no protection, cars just run through the islands and it's very difficult for crossing, very difficult for cars to turn and move."
The city's Department of Transportation says it did extensive outreach with the community during the planning process. But Boyce says his opinion was not heard, and thinks the buses don't belong in his community.
The DOT says in addition to the safety measures it added, it intends to adjust the signal timing along Kings Highway to help reduce potential traffic.
