Police: Driving instructor charged with DWI after Ridge crash

Police say a Suffolk driving instructor is accused of being drunk behind the wheel, leaving his students at a McDonald's restaurant and then rear-ending another car.
Suffolk police say 58-year-old Russell Cohen, of Ridge, had four students in his car Saturday morning when they became suspicious that he was intoxicated. The students convinced Cohen to stop at the McDonald's on Middle Country Road in Centereach. They exited the car and called 911, according to police.
When the students didn't return in a timely manner, police say Cohen left them at the restaurant and drove away. He then crashed into another car on Route 25 near Montuak Trail in Ridge.
That vehicle was driven by a 29-year-old Shoreham woman, who was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Cohen, who is an instructor with Suffolk Auto Driving School, was not hurt in the crash.
Cohen is being charged with aggravated DWI and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
