Woman forced from home after tree crashes on roof

FAIRFIELD -

An elderly disabled woman was forced from her Fairfield home after a tree came crashing down on her roof.

Fire officials say the damage to her home is minor, but because there's another tree that could fall on the house at any time, it was just too dangerous for her to stay there.

Firefighters were called to the Florence Lane home around 7 p.m. Thursday.

The assistant chief says the heavy rain weakened the tree's roots, which caused it to fall.

He says when crews were assessing the damage they noticed a second much larger tree leaning over the home.

They worked with AMR to find somewhere else for the owner to spend the night.
