Cleanup underway in Stamford schools after mold discovery

Posted: Updated:
STAMFORD -

Mold is creating a number headaches for local school districts.

Westover Elementary in Stamford is one of almost a dozen buildings to have a mold problem this school year.

Students from the school say picture day had to be moved because mold has the auditorium sealed off.

Cleanup crews carrying equipment were seen leaving the school Monday after more mold was discovered last week. A district report shows that since August, classrooms, the library, and the auditorium all tested positive for mold.

"It's something that can creep through the air and you don't even see it... so it is definitely something that they should be worried about it," says parent Michelle Stroud.

The district blames months of warm, humid weather.

Other buildings aside from public schools are also experiencing mold issues.

The owner of the local Servprom branch tells News 12 he is involved with the cleanup and that business is up by 50 percent.

He also says the warm, humid weather is perfect for growing mold.
