Thomaston H.S. students grill gubernatorial candidates on the issues

NORWALK -

Students at Thomaston High School grilled the candidates for governor and lieutenant governor Tuesday on some issues important to them.

The students focused on topics ranging from the cost of college to school safety. Independent gubernatorial candidates Oz Griebel and Mark Stewart Greenstein attended, as did Republican lieutenant governor candidate Joe Markley and Sean Connolly, a representative from Ned Lamont's campaign.

Students asked what the candidates would do to make funding for college more accessible. None of the campaigns were for consolidating all 12 of the state's community colleges, but all said there are ways to trim fat.

The four campaigns all had different viewpoints when it came to the state's gun laws. Connolly spoke about how Lamont wants more gun laws in place. Greenstein called for arming teachers, which drew boos from the crowd.

Lamont and challenger Bob Stefanowski were not in attendance because they were making their pitches to retired teachers near Hartford.
