A Bridgeport family is grieving after a woman was struck and killed by a dump truck while crossing Route 25 Thursday night.
Police say 54-year-old Maria Mendoza-Robles, of Bridgeport, was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck around 8 p.m.
At least one lane on the highway was shut down for hours while police investigated.
Bridgeport Police Chief AJ Perez says the male driver left the scene traveling south on Route 25. The vehicle has a red or orange hood.
The victim's son says Mendoza-Robles was a devoted mother and grandmother who came to the U.S. from Mexico when she was 16 years old.
She leaves behind four children and a husband.
