Public works officials cleared leaves from drainage areas in Fairfield Friday ahead of an expected nor’easter.
Fairfield Superintendent of Public Works Scott Bartlett says a storm on Sept. 25 drenched Fairfield with 7 inches of rain and caused major flooding.
Bartlett says crews have been out all day clearing leaves from drains and other low-lying areas.
The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood advisory Saturday. Bartlett says areas inland should not be as affected by the storm, but Public Works officials aren’t taking any chances.
Street sweepers were used to clean viaducts and crews checked tidal gates and catch basins for blockages.
Bartlett says there are 6,000 catch basins in Fairfield and he encourages residents to clear leaves from the ones outside of their properties.
