Norwalk cyclist leaves hospital as police seek hit-and-run driver who hit him

A bicyclist is recovering after police say he was hit by a car that took off in Norwalk Friday.
Police are now asking for the public's help in finding the driver.
Joe Rodriguez has been cycling for more than 30 years. He says he routinely rides through East Norwalk on the same route he was on Friday and has always felt safe.
Police say a gray car hit Rodriguez on Norden Place and then headed west toward East Avenue around 5:45 p.m. Friday.
"Out of nowhere, boom," Rodriguez says. "And that's all I remember."
Rodriguez broke his leg in three places. His family says he also has a chipped vertebrae, lacerations and a concussion.
"I couldn't hit an animal and not stop, so you have to wonder," Rodriguez says.
Authorities are cautioning bicycle riders to wear a light, reflective vest and be aware of their surroundings, especially now that it is getting dark earlier.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Norwalk Police Department at 203-854-3000.
