Students, teachers hunker down at school after snowstorm slams state

Many school districts were caught completely off guard by Thursday’s storm, including West Orange High School, where some students and teachers never made it home last night.
The storm completely caught school bus drivers off guard and made it impossible for them to get the kids home.
Many drivers were forced to turn around, make their way back to the school and hunker down with officials implementing a shelter in place scenario.
The following buses were routed back to West Orange High School: 314, 315, 316, 327, 347, 5, 29, 140, 141, 138, 139
Sources tell News 12 there was a similar situation at a school in Jersey City as well.
Meanwhile, dozens of drivers were stuck on nearby Route 280 in their cars for hours with no food, nowhere to go to the bathroom, running out of gas, and many with small children and babies.
There were similar situations on most major roadways heading north and west.
West Orange schools were closed Friday.
