BRIDGEPORT -

A man was fatally shot in Bridgeport, marking the city's 9th homicide of the year, officials say.

The incident happened Tuesday on Laurel Avenue around 7:30 p.m.

Police say the 30-year-old man appeared to be targeted and that the incident was not a random act of violence.

They say two men were seen walking and talking together, then one shot the other in the neck and torso.

The victim was transported to St. Vincent's Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

"If anybody has anything, please reach out to us," says Capt. Brian Fitzgerald. "We'd like to bring some closure to the family, especially at the holiday time."

Police have not identified the man killed in the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 203-576-TIPS.
