A Williamsburgh high school had a big celebration Thursday because 92 percent of the graduating seniors have completed their college applications that are due in the coming weeks.
Many of Brooklyn Prep's students are first-generation college students, come from low-income families and may not necessarily know how the process works. The staff says they are proud of the students for starting the process early.
Nayelis Lopez is applying early decision to Brown University. She says she is grateful she was able to enroll in advanced placement courses at Brooklyn Prep since ninth grade.
During the pep rally, students cheered each other on and mailed envelopes with the names of their dream schools to symbolize their commitment to finishing the college application process.
The school is expecting 100 percent of its students to meet the application deadline in about three weeks.
