A Wyandanch man is accused of driving drunk in the wrong direction before crashing and critically injuring a passenger riding inside his vehicle.
Police say 26-year-old Jose Gonzalez was traveling south in the northbound lanes of Straight Path in West Babylon early Saturday morning. His vehicle, a 2012 Honda, collided with a Mercedez-Benz around 2 a.m.
A passenger in Gonzalez's car, identified as 36-year-old Olga Membreno, of Wyandanch, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in critical condition.
Gonzalez and the driver of the Mercedes, 54-year-old Baldwin Henry, of Dix Hills, were also hospitalized. They suffered minor injuries.
Prosecutors say Gonzalez was also driving without a license. He is charged with DWI and was ordered held on $12,500 bail at arraignment Saturday.
