A Christmas Scrooge is accused of stealing pieces of a nativity scene from a church on Christmas Day.
South Brunswick police say that the theft happened at the St. Augustine of Canterbury Church. A thief stole the baby Jesus and Virgin Mary figurines.
Police are investigating, but parishioners tell News 12 New Jersey that they are ready to forgive the thief and just want the items back.
“I pray…that he will really be enlightened,” says Mary Lou Riego Dedios.
Police say that the theft happened sometime between 2:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Christmas. They are asking any neighbors who may have surveillance cameras on their homes to turn the video in.
The church’s priest tells News 12 that the figures were part of a $4,000 nativity set from Italy that was just brought in and blessed on Dec. 8.
Anyone who may have any information about the theft should contact the South Brunswick Police Department at 732-329-4646.
