Person escapes fiery Westport car crash

WESTPORT -

A person is lucky to be alive after escaping a fiery car crash in Westport Thursday, fire officials say. 

The incident happened on Wilton Road around 3 a.m.  

The Westport Fire Department says firefighters arrived to find a the car fully engulfed in flames and the driver outside of the car. 

Fire officials say they helped Westport police provide care to the driver of the car until the arrival of Westport EMS.  

Officials say the fire was quickly extinguished, and the scene was cleared by 5 a.m.

Officials did not say what condition the driver of the car was in.
