Guide: Christmas tree disposal in Connecticut towns

If you’re getting ready to dispose of your Christmas tree, News 12 has you covered. Below is a list of guidelines for getting rid of trees in Connecticut towns.

Trees to be curbside at 6:00 a.m. on your scheduled Recycling Day from Jan. 7-Feb. 1. Please do not put trees outside days prior as they can be buried by snow or blown into streets causing a safety hazard. All trees must be free of decorations, lights, and plastic bags. Artificial trees will not be picked up. Trees can also be brought to the City Transfer Station on 475 Asylum St. in Bridgeport. Click here for more information.

From Jan. 2 through Jan. 30, neighborhood by neighborhood, Darien Department of Public Works employees will be picking up Christmas trees left on the curb throughout town. Each neighborhood in town gets two periods for pickups. Click here for more information.

Harvest New England accepts Christmas trees free of charge.  In addition to regular weekday hours, the Yard Waste Facility will be open on Saturday, Jan. 13 and Saturday, Jan. 20 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for Christmas Tree and Yard Waste disposal. Click here for more information.

The Public Works Department will pick up Christmas trees that are curbside throughout the month of January. Recycle trees can be brought to Walnut Beach or Tri-Beach parking lots Saturday, Jan. 5 or Saturday, Jan. 12 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The Department of Public Works will be there to chip the trees. On Monday, Jan. 14, must have trees on the curb by 7 a.m. The Highway Department will complete their pickups by will be completed by Feb. 1.

For City of Norwalk residents that receive city garbage collection, Christmas trees will be collected twice during the month of January 2019:
-Monday, Jan. 7 – Friday, Jan. 11
-Monday, Jan. 14 – Friday Jan. 18
Please have all trees curbside by 6:00 a.m. on the MONDAY of the above collection weeks. Please NO PLASTIC BAGS, DECORATIONS, or LIGHTS. Click here for more information.

Recycle - The way to recycle your Christmas tree is to participate in the city Highway Department's Christmas tree collection after Christmas or drop it off at Katrina Mygatt Recycling Center. The trees will eventually be recycled into mulch.
Disposal - The city of Stamford Highway Department will collect Christmas trees starting Jan. 15. Please have trees out by then. If you miss the collection, the trees may be brought to the Katrina Mygatt Recycling Center.

Boy Scouts of Troop 39  will pick up your tree from your driveway and recycle it into mulch.
