'Beautiful journey': Couple to welcome new child with help of Greenwich clinic

Posted: Updated:
A Greenwich clinic is offering surrogacy as another option to help build a family.
People choose surrogates for many different reasons. For husbands Joe and Mark, they wanted to build a family of their own.
"It's been a really beautiful journey and we are looking forward to welcoming our baby girl into our home at the end of February," Joe says.
The couple went through the Greenwich Fertility Clinic. They pair the surrogate with the family by having each party get to know each other well.
"They want to make sure that there is a connection, because if there is not a connection, the journey itself it will just feel really clinical and removed," Joe says.
The topic of surrogates has been hoisted into the public spotlight after the celebrity couple of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian opted to use a surrogate for their fourth child. Kardashian has been open about the complications she had with the pregnancies of her first two kids.

Dr. Anate Aelion Brauer, a reproductive endocrinology and fertility specialist at Greenwich Fertility says Kardashian's gestational surrogacy provides a vehicle to better educate people about the procedure.

"I think a lot isn't known about gestational surrogacy and there's still a lot of stigma surrounding surrogacy, and infertility. I think the Kardashian sisters through their TV show and social media presence have been very open to bringinng attention to infertility," Brauer says.
Mark and Joe opted to choose an egg donor based on her eyes. Joe says he fell in love with Mark because of his kind eyes. He is hoping for the same for their baby girl.
