Watertown police are urging residents to take precautions after a 70-year-old woman was killed in her home last week.
Police say they can't rule out the possibility that the attack may have been a random act of violence.
Officials say officers found Maryann Kibbe-Stannisz, who lived alone, dead Wednesday afternoon from blunt force trauma to the face and neck.
Police say they are tracking leads but don't have a suspect in the attack or a motive.
Detectives say they're stepping up patrols in the area and that residents should be extra careful.
Neighbors say they've been extra vigilant since the attack as they hope the person responsible is brought to justice soon.
Police say the victim's car, a gray PT Cruiser, was missing from the house and was later discovered in Waterbury.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
