The feud among Mount Vernon officials is heating up with city workers blasting the comptroller over alleged threats to not pay workers.

Members of the police, fire and DPW departments stood alongside Mayor Richard Thomas Friday angry over alleged threats by Comptroller Deborah Reynolds to not pay workers since the city has yet to finalize a 2019 budget.

"Police, fire, DPW are sent into unknown often dangerous conditions at all times of days and nights," says Mayor Thomas. "They protect us, our promise in return is we will pay them."

Reynolds did pay all the workers. Friday's disagreement between the mayor and comptroller is just the latest chapter in a long-running war of words over supposed millions in unpaid bills, the city's finances and control for power of the purse at City Hall.

The DPW commissioner claims his department has unpaid bills for fuel that date back to October. He's demanding the comptroller pay the invoices.

Reynolds tells News 12 that she believes the mayor is a liar and that he's lying about her again.

"We need to talk to each other and stop talking around each other," says Reynolds.

Council President Andre Wallace is trying to bring the mayor and comptroller to the table to find common ground.
