Crews in Oyster Bay have begun pretreating the roads for tonight’s storm that is expected to bring a mix of snow, rain and a drastic drop in temperatures, says Town Supervisor Joe Saladino.
Saladino says intersections and hilly areas are the focus of the pretreatment. He says that once the snow begins to fall, 300 town trucks, including plows, salt and sand spreaders and hay loaders are prepared to get to work.
The town has 12,000 tons of salt and sand on deck.
Officials tell News 12 that the sudden freeze might be the biggest danger of the storm.
“Black ice can be very deceiving,” says Saladino. “This will be very dangerous for our residents on the road."
Officials are asking drivers to stay off the road if possible.
Nassau County officials say they are also prepared for the storm, with more than 20,000 tons of road salt stored for use.

“The forecast for the storm has changed quite a bit just over the last 24 hours,” says Hempstead Town Supervisor Laura Gillen. “We’re preparing for the worst, hoping for the best.”
