Police: Man fatally stabbed estranged wife; son hurt trying to intervene

Police say a man fatally stabbed his estranged wife in Copiague, and the couple's son was hurt while trying to intervene.
Police were called to 88 Lake Drive just after 7 p.m. Monday.
Detectives say 49-year-old Wayne Alcus stabbed his wife, 55-year-old Patricia Alcus. They say the couple's 18-year-old son Ryan suffered a hand wound while trying to wrestle away the knife from his father.
There was no word on a motive for the stabbing.
Officers arrived on scene to find Wayne Alcus in the front yard, bleeding. Prosecutors say he told them, "I did it; I couldn't take it anymore; I killed her; she's in the kitchen."
Police say the suspect recently moved out of the home to West Islip. Neighbors say the family lived on Lake Drive for nearly two decades. The couple was married or 22 years and had two children, they say.
Alcus was charged with second-degree murder. His attorney entered a not guilty plea. If convicted, Alcus faces 25 years to life in prison.
