Watertown police say a convicted felon is being charged in the slaying of a 70-year-old woman.
They say William Bayarinas, 48, was arrested for burglarizing a Waterbury pizzeria where officers found the victim's car.
Police say they have a warrant out for Bayarinas, who had been released from custody on Jan. 4. They say a few days after stealing 70-year-old Maryann Stanisz’s car and TV set, he fatally attacked her.
Officials say Bayarinas used to live near Stanisz's home on Bushnell Avenue and they believe he knew the victim's late husband. They say they don't have a motive yet, and have not recovered a murder weapon.
Bayarinas is being charged with home invasion, murder and burglary.
The court is ordering mental health treatment for Bayarinas, who is being held on a $3 million bond.
He is expected back in court on Feb. 6.
