Police rescue elderly disabled woman from burning home

Three police officers rescued a disabled 75-year-old woman from a burning house in Hunterdon County.
Raritan Township officers Brett Szatkowski, Adam Swiatek and Robert Schenck forced their way into the Becks Boulevard home around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday and found the woman on a burning couch on the first floor. They carried the woman and passed her through a window to other emergency responders.
The woman was flown to a hospital for treatment. Her name and further details on her injuries and disability were not disclosed.
Officials say that the woman’s 38-year-old son was treated at a hospital for smoke inhalation. He was the one who first reported the fire.
The officers were all treated on scene for smoke inhalation and returned to duty.
Firefighters battled the blaze for about two hours before bringing it under control. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
