Police: Man gets hit by car in Shelton after stabbing roommate

A man has been charged after police say he stabbed his 60-year-old roommate multiple times before fleeing the house and getting struck by a car in Shelton.
Carmelo Rivera, 26, of Shelton, was charged with criminal attempted murder and assault in the first degree of an elderly person.
The incident happened at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday at a home near the 300 block of Howe Avenue.
Police say they received multiple calls to the area regarding an assault and a person struck by a car.
Officers found Rivera in the street where he had been struck by a car traveling south on Howe Avenue.
Police say the driver of the car stopped and is cooperating with police. 
Officers say they found the 60-year-old man stabbed multiple times at the home where the incident first occurred.
The man who was stabbed was transported to the hospital in critical but stable condition.
Rivera is being held on a $500,000 bond and sustained non-life threatening injuries.
