A Fairfield police detective was the first witness called today at the trial of a Fairfield Warde High School teacher charged with exposing himself to a student.

The graphic arts teacher, 46-year-old Jeff Iwanicki, was charged after a female student alleged he exposed himself twice during school hours at the end of 2016.

Police say the complaint against Iwanicki came days after he called the student out for skipping classes and threatened to tell school administrators.

Prosecutors charged Iwanicki before an arbitrator appointed by the board of education concluded the student's story was not credible, and other students in the room say they did not see anything.

The accuser "admitted that she doubted herself, that she thought she was crazy, that she never saw Mr. Iwanicki unzip his pants, or remove his penis," according to the arbitrator's report.

Police say there was no alleged physical contact between Iwanicki and the student.

Iwanicki has been able to keep his job while his case is being heard.
