The owners of Dockside Brewery broke ground Monday on what will be a riverside brewery and beer garden.
State and city officials, including Mayor Ben Blake, joined the owners for the groundbreaking at the marina on Bridgeport Avenue, on the Housatonic River. Organizers say the site will be a fully operational seven-barrel brewery after about six months of construction.
Dockside will brew beer from Engine 15 Brewing Company in Jacksonville, Florida. The owners say they are also looking forward to coming up with new recipes for the Connecticut craft brew scene.
Co-owner Dan Bagley, an avid boater himself, says he is happy to bring the community something new to do on the water.
"Seems like a lot of the time we'll get on our boats and we'll shoot over to Long Island or go to New York City or Rhode Island," he told News 12. "There's really not much in Connecticut where you can pull up in a boat, so to be a part of that, and to make a destination that we're building now, is very exciting."
